In my spiritual tradition, following the church calendar means celebrating Easter, Palm Sunday, Christmas, and maybe the season of Advent. The denomination my husband and I are currently a part of and what I grew up in is charismatic and has almost shunned the use of ritual and rhythms of spirituality in the name of avoiding all possibilities of legalism. I agree, of course, that we should avoid legalism since it was that through the Pharisees and Sadusees that Jesus so forcefully condemned, however, (and this is a whole other topic for another day) I do believe that spiritual routines and traditions that have been part of Christianity for centuries can be very beneficial in our relationships with Christ.

February Journal Entry
Wow, it’s been a whole month since I’ve written anything. I don’t even need to say how busy I was because that says everything right there. I will, however, give a little run down of what’s happened this month so that I know in the future how I spent February of 2023.
The first week, I felt like I was getting my feet back under me after New York (a journal about that is still coming if just for my own mental clarity lol). I went to an American eye doctor for the first time in literally 10 years to get my prescription changed.

January 16-30 Journal Entry
Wow, it’s been two weeks and I haven’t written anything. I can tell that the days have gone by quickly because I haven’t processed the time that’s passed and my life feels like it’s slipping through my fingers again. Life has been busy. Not just with daily tasks but with long term projects ramping up (mostly The Color Purple). We spent the week before traveling to New York prepping to go and the week after getting our feet back under us and catching up on work. I still don’t feel normal again but that is probably because I have a lot of work to do for The Color Purple and feel like I don’t have the time for everything.

January 8-14th Journal Entry
This was a good week. A weird week but a good week. Nathaniel got sick on Wednesday night and stayed home Thursday and that kinda threw us both off. I know he hasn’t gotten back into the swing of our newly formed routines and I am just barely holding on. We’re also prepping for our trip to New York this weekend and getting all of that settled is taking up a lot of space in our minds.

January 1-7 - My weekly check in
The year has started off well! Having the holidays on weekends made it feel like we got jipped out of days off, but Nathaniel and I did get several days off and we ended up using them to really deep dive into our goals and plans for the year. We’ve never been people to have a word for the year but this year we saw the trend in all our thoughts and goals and the word we settled on was “Intentional.”
